Malibran String Quintet

The ensemble was established some years ago through the Quadrivium Association for musical projects and is formed by musicians coming from different Italian regions, joined together by work and friendship. Each member of the Ensemble boasts a high quality musical pedigree.

The main purpose of Malibran Quintet is to explore the XIX century italian string repertory, with special attention to music composed for the lyric theatre, particularly the famous Bellini operas. Bottesini’s music for double bass is also often played by the Ensemble due to the presence of italian virtuoso Nicola Malagugini.

During concerts in the main italian musical institutions the Ensemble collaborated with famous artists such as Vladimir Mendelssohn, Christophe Coin, Vincenzo Mariozzi, Valery Oistrakh.

The Ensemble is very interested in contemporary composition and have performed important world first performance of Nicola Piovani operas (Oscar winner) and other Italian composers. In Summer 2011 they were invited to play a concert in famous Spoleto “Festival of the Two Worlds”.
